NABIE will have the opportunity to tour the GIWW West Closure Complex, a $1 billion hurricane storm surge protection facility for the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas with Dr. Norma Jean Mattei of the University of New Orleans. The GIWW boasts one of the world’s largest interior drainage pump stations and one of the nation’s largest navigable floodgates (225 feet). The pump station has 11 units and is capable of discharging storm water at a rate of 19,140 cubic feet per second.
